“Why Can’t We” New CD Release
Lily Isaacs
Mike Dunn’s guest on “Quest for Character” was Lily Isaacs, of the Southern Gospel Group, “The Isaacs”.
The Isaacs are one of the most beloved groups in Southern Gospel music. For over thirty years the Isaacs have been traveling together performing a style of music that is uniquely their own. Mix together a generous portion of bluegrass instrumentation, southern gospel lyrics and sincere family harmonies, toss in a heart to reach an audience for Christ and you have the Isaacs.
The Isaacs have won many awards for their music including a Dove award for their 1997 album, Bridges . They have also had several number one songs including, “Stand Still ” and “From The Depths of My Heart”. “Heal Our Land” tied for Song of the Year in 2002.
Lily Isaacs is a vocalist and matriarch of the group. She was born in Germany after World War II to two Jewish Holocaust survivors and moved to the United States when she was 2 years old. She grew up in the Bronx, NY studying theatre and performing on Off Broadway and in 1968 recorded a folk album on Columbia Records with her friend as “Lily and Maria.” She became a Christian in 1971 when a death in the family brought her and patriarch Joe Isaacs to church for the first time. That night, they began singing Christian music and laid the foundation upon which the Isaacs ministry has been built.
The Isaacs have made frequent guest appearances on many other artists records including Dolly Parton, Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, Paul Simon, Vince Gill, Randy Owen, Trisha Yearwood, Ralph Stanley, Mark Lowry, and many more. They enjoy singing and traveling most though, and provide a professional, style sensitive performance wherever they go.
The Isaac’s newest CD, “Why Can’t We”, is a rousing thirteen-song set of country and bluegrass flavored originals. It includes “Four Men Walkin’ Around,” “I Still Trust You,” “That Is Why I Sing,” and more.
